KCAI belongs to the MOBIUS library consortium of over 60 academic libraries in Missouri and the surrounding area. KCAI students and faculty are able to initiate requests for books online, enabling you to borrow from any MOBIUS member-library. If available, your item(s) will be delivered to Jannes Library for you to check out.
In order to borrow from other libraries, you must have an active account at KCAI’s Jannes Library and your library account must be in good standing (no over-dues or fines owed).
Jannes Library staff members are available to assist KCAI students, faculty, and staff members with your information needs. We are staying in touch by phone, email, Google Meet, and online Chat. Expect a prompt reply within the open hours listed. Or drop by!
Circulation Desk: (816)802-3390

You are welcome to utilize the CHAT to the left to communicate with library staff in real time!
The library's website is an important resource that provides access to all of the resources mentioned in this guide. For current library hours, new resources, and updates to the library's social media pages, make sure to visit the library's website.
All books in Jannes Library are shelved in order by what is called a ‘CALL NUMBER’ - a combination of alpha/numeric characters. Our library uses L.C. call numbers derived from the Library of Congress. This is not the same as the dewey decimal system often used in public libraries. We use the L.C. because it allows us 26 character classifications (A-Z), whereas the dewey decimal system only has about half of that (0-9).
Here’s an example of what the L.C. call # code means :
TR681 - the L.C.subject ( TR=Portrait photography, special class of persons) Where you will start.
Call numbers will begin with 1-3 letters.
All following lines are simply narrowing down the Subject.
.F3 - Subject subdivision (Famous persons)
S288s - Cutter (Author &/or artist #, or biographe #, + work mark)
*many times this is then followed by a year, volume #, copy#, etc.
When searching for books, consider the call number as a clue. Each item in our library has a unique call number. It's your job to find the item with the clue you've been given!
REMEMBER... When reading a call number, follow the letters, then the numbers & look at the call number one character at a time!
