Books on the Still Life in Art

You could also look into Dutch kunstkamers and kunstkamer paintings ("cabinets of curiosities") -- the phenomenon of collecting things and painting the room with that collection.   Or do a visual search of Dutch trompe l'oeil online and you'll see great examples -- by Samuel van Hoogstraten, Norbertus Gijsbrechts, and Edwaert Collier.
